FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why have Facial Aesthetic treatment with a dentist?

We believe that dentists are the best at providing these types of treatment because:
  • we have a thorough knowledge of facial anatomy

  • we are highly skilled at injecting

  • we can make the experience as painless as possible and provide local anaesthetic (dental block) if required, prior to treatment

DERMAL FILLERS

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are used to remove or reduce lines, folds and wrinkles on any area of the face. They are based on hyaluronic acid, a clear gel, which is found naturally in skin which gives it its elasticity and as we age is degraded so that wrinkles form and skin becomes more lax. The main fillers used are Hydrafill, Restylane and Juvederm. There are other fillers on the market but from our research over the years these have proved to be the most effective.

How are they used?

After a local numbing of the skin (if needed) the fillers are injected into the specific area to be treated. They work immediately to lift the skin and soften the lines but after a couple of days when any redness has subsided their overall effect improves. These fillers can also be used to define lips or to fill them out to increase the 'pout'. The time they last can vary but on average we have found them to last around 12 months making this a very cost effective treatment.

Are they safe?

The fillers used in our clinic have a very good safety record and we ourselves have seen no serious side effects to date. In a similar way to Botox, allergic reactions have been reported and the manufacturers recommend all patients are warned that this is a rare possibility

Why use Hyaluronic acid?

It is a temporary dermal filler and is naturally broken down. Hyaluronic acid is less likely to cause allergic reactions than any other type of filler

What can be treated with Dermal Fillers?
  • Lip plumping

  • Smokers lines around the lips
  • Smile line

How long do the effects last?

Usually 6-12 months

BOTULINUM TOXIN

What are Botox injections?

We inject a solution containing a toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum (a naturally occuring bacteria). This treatment is used to prevent wrinkles and to smooth out existing lines and creases, and given in such small doses by a knowledgeable practitioner, it is an extremely safe procedure and surprisingly painless.`

How does it work ?

This toxin blocks muscle contraction. Injecting this solution into the affected area temporarily paralyses those muscles responsible for frowning and wrinkling, giving the face a more relaxed and pleasant appearance. The wrinkles become smoother or disappear altogether.

Is it safe?

Yes - B°tox has been used since the 1980's to treat a wide range of muscle disorders and its effects are of a temporary nature. The toxin is itself a naturally occuring product derived from a specific type of bacteria, which is specially prepared for cosmetic use.

What can be treated with wrinkle relaxing injections?

  • Frown lines

  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Eyebrow lift
  • Crow’s feet
How long do the effects last?

On average 3-4 months

FACIAL CHEMICAL PEELS

What is a Facial Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel involves the use of chemicals such as AHA's, Trichloracetic acid (TCA) or Phenol to remove layers of damaged or aged skin to reveal newer, softer, younger looking skin.

How should they be used?

A chemical peel can be performed whenever there is damage to be removed. The best results are generally seen in the winter when sun exposure is at a minimum and usually after a rigorous skin care regimen. The age limit for use of chemical peels is at the early to mid teens.

What can I expect during and after treatment?

You may experience a warm or tingling sensation during treatment depending upon the strength of the peel. Post treatment you will feel as though your skin has a mild windburn or sunburn and that your skin feels tight. Just let your skin heal naturally - do not peel any loose skin from the face if this is evident after treatment and try not make excessive exaggerated facial expressions for a few days.

When will I see the results?

You will start noticing pink, fresh skin emerging from under the peeling, damaged skin after a few days. Within a few weeks the pinkness will fade leaving your skin with a fresh, natural glow. Any wrinkles will be softened and your appearance made fresher depending upon the depth of the peel

How long do the results last?

The results are as permanent as your intentions of taking care of your skin after treatment. If you tend to sunbathe, smoke, and generally not look after your skin, it will become damaged again.

TOOTH WHITENING

How Does It Work?

WY10 contains a purer form of hydrogen peroxide. With fewer additives holding back its chemical reactions, its active ingredient penetrates the enamel and dentine to reach the stain molecules much faster. The lower viscosity allows the gel to adhere to the teeth more readily increasing contact area. Being completely water-based, the gel is readily absorbed into the teeth structure. The WY10 patent-pending organic activator reacts with the hydrogen peroxide and triggers the release of active components at over ten times its normal rate. The culminating result is a gel that produces results fast.

Is It Cost Effective?

The unit costs of the WY10 products are highly competitive with leading brands. However when the saving in chair time is factored in the cost effectiveness of the WY10 products is way above the other brands.

What causes staining of the teeth?

There are many factors that can cause staining. Coffee, tea, red wine, smoking all cause tooth discolouration. In childhood, taking antibiotics such as tetracycline can cause teeth to become darker.

What does home whitening involve?

The professional home whitening treatment allows you to carry out teeth whitening procedure in the comfort of your own home or work place, and yet benefit from the professional advice of a dentist. I initially check your teeth to ensure they are suitable for whitening. Impressions of your teeth are taken, from which two thin patented customised Perfect Trays are moulded. These precision trays fit your teeth perfectly and comfortably.

We will then explain how to apply the whitening gel to the trays and how to correctly place these trays on your teeth. For best results, these trays should be worn for half an hour, twice a day for two weeks.

How long do the results last?

The teeth will always be lighter than they were. However, some people may want to touch-up their teeth by re-whitening for one to two days, usually once or twice a year. This is especially useful if they continue to use staining substances such as coffee or tobacco products.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes! Research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth with hydrogen peroxide under supervision is safe for teeth and gums.

What are the side effects?

Some people experience temporary teeth sensitivity during the treatment. These symptoms always disappear within 1-2 days after interruption or completion of the treatment.
